Deep Space Nine

Originally called Terok Nor, Deep Space Nine was a Cardassian designed space station constructed by Bajoran slaves during the Occupation of Bajor in the year 2351, for the purpose of ore processing and strategic defence. It was abandoned by the Cardassians at the end of the Occupation in 2369, and though it became Bajoran property, the Federation was called in to take command. When the Bajoran Wormhole was discovered, Deep Space Nine was moved from orbiting Bajor to the mouth of the wormhole. What had once been a backwater station had become, perhaps the most strategic Federation post in the Alpha Quadrant. DS9 was evacuated many times during emergency situations throughout the Federation's presence there, and it was briefly taken over by Dominion forces during the Dominion War.

USS Defiant NX-74205

The USS Defiant NX-74205 was the first of the Defiant Class ships. It was a compact heavily armed vessel partially designed by Captain Sisko, and was originally created as a defence against the Borg. The Defiant was stationed at Deep Space Nine in 2371 to meet the Dominion threat, and lead several Federation-Klingon-Romulan armadas in the Dominion War. She was destroyed in 2375 by a Breen energy-dampening weapon, but was quickly replaced by the Defiant II, which remained stationed at DS9 after the war.

Danube Class ("Runabout") Starships

All named after famous rivers on Earth, the Danube Class starships, or "Runabouts" as they're commonly called, were put into service in 2367. With their size being somewhere between that of a standard shuttlecraft and a starship, they were used for long term missions that shuttles couldn't handle. Runabouts were extremely versatile, because the mid-section could be taken out and replaced with another containing different utilities, depending on the type of mission. They had four crew seats in the forward cabin, but living quarters for up to forty people in the back. Fortified equipment included several replicators and a two person transporter. Deep Space Nine had at least three runabouts stationed at any given time during the Federation's presence there, with the most famous one being the Rio Grande; the only DS9 runabout to remain and survive at the station from the series' beginning to end.

Starbase 375

The Federation senior officers of Deep Space Nine were stationed at Starbase 375 along with the Defiant, when the Dominion temporarily took over Deep Space Nine. The Federation-Klingon-Romulan armada which took back DS9 gathered there.

Empok Nor

A sister station to Terok Nor, which the Cardassians abandoned in 2372. The station's inertial dampeners were left offline, causing it to slowly spin in varying directions. An away team from Deep Space Nine went there in 2373 to salvage parts for DS9, and a year later, Ishka was held hostage there by the Dominion until a team of Ferengi saved her. Dukat used the station as the base for the Pah-Wraith cult he was leading.
