The relationships that developed and changed between the Deep Space Nine senior staff, outside of the main storyline, were very important to the overall concept of the show. Deep Space Nine was the only Star Trek series which dedicated entire episodes each season to the social development that took place between characters. This page gives brief overviews of the major relations that took place among the main characters.
The table below will allow you access information on the specific relationship you are looking for. Look for the name of either person in the relationship, then follow the column down to the other person's name, and click on it. Characters that had no major interactions in the show with another character do not have a relationship description together. Names are listed horizontally and vertically in order of rank.

Sisko & Kira
Right from the beginning, Commander Sisko and Major Kira clashed when it came to command decisions, Kira always giving the Cardassians more heat than Sisko felt necessary. Unlike many first officer-captain relationships, Kira and Sisko never became very close, probably because Kira saw Sisko as the Emissary.

Sisko & Jadzia
Jadzia was Sisko's best friend from another lifetime, so to speak. As the new host to the Dax symbiont, Jadzia had all of the memories Sisko and Dax's previous host, Curzon, shared together. Sisko would often go to Jadzia for advice, and he still called her "Old Man", as he had called Curzon.

Kira & Odo
Kira and Odo had known each other for many years, as Kira had been on Terok Nor at the end of the Occupation, and Odo had originally been Chief of Security for the Cardassians. Odo developed a romantic interest for Major Kira, but became torn between her and his own people. When he decided that he wanted to pursue a relationship, it was too late, because Kira had already become involved with Vedek Bareil. Some time after Bareil's death, Odo began seeking advice from Vic Fontaine, a self-aware hologram from one of Quark's holosuite programs. Fontaine fixed Odo up by making him think that he was really going to be spending time with a holographic Kira, and things were gong well until the Kira and Odo found out what was really going on. They kissed on the promenade the next day when the tension was mounting, and were together as lovers until Odo left to be with the Founders at the end of the series.

Kira & Jadzia
As the only two female senior officers on Deep Space Nine, Jadzia and Kira became fast friends. Together they fended off Quark, who would often invite them both into his bar for a drink on the house.

Kira & O'Brien
Kira, Bashir, O'Brien, and his wife Keiko, had been in a runabout when disaster struck. Keiko, who had been pregnant, was injured in the accident and would no longer be able to carry her and O'Brien's child. Doctor Bashir transported the baby from Keiko's womb into Major Kira's, and she nursed the baby until it was born. During Kira's "pregnancy", she and Chief O'Brien became quite close, and almost became romantically involved, but threw the thought away, seeing as how O'Brien was married.

Odo & Quark
Quark had bartended on Terok Nor during the Occupation, and was just as cheating and swindling then as he was when the Federation took over. Odo made it his personal chore to stop Quark's illegal business transactions and various other schemes above all else, and never took an eye off of him. When stumped during a crime investigation or investigation of other sorts, Odo could always go to Quark and bargain with him for information that he always had--apparently Ferengi bartenders get a lot of hearsay. Though they both seemed to hate each other at first glance, there were signs of a mutual friendship beneath their hard exteriors. When Odo left the station to be with his people at the end of the series, Quark rushed to the airlock to say good bye.

Worf & Jadzia
Worf and Jadzia made up the most unlikely couple you could imagine. They had been romantically interested in each other, and somewhat involved for a couple years. The two bickered and argued about the stupidest things. Worf was a very solemn person, not wanting to break his Klingon sense of honour, while Jadzia was wild and wanted to have fun. Eventually, through some miracle, the two worked things out and were married. They made a very good couple, until Jadzia's death.

Worf & Ezri
Since Ezri had been joined with the Dax symbiont, she had all of Jadzia's memories with Worf. That made Worf very uncomfortable, and wrecked with pain. He treated her in an extremely rude and ignorant manner until they were captured by the Breen together and Worf was forced to deal with his feelings.
TOP
Jadzia & Bashir
A year younger than Jadzia, Doctor Bashir loved her for almost two years before giving up on a romantic relationship.
TOP
Jadzia & Quark
Like Doctor Bashir, Quark had a romantic interest in Jadzia--unlike Doctor Bashir, Quark didn't give up when Jadzia said no. Despite never becoming involved with each other, Jadzia saw past Quark's scheming ways and became friends with him. She was the only non-Ferengi Quark would allow to play tongo (a Ferengi gambling game) with himself and his team of waiters.
TOP
Bashir & Ezri
Bashir had been interested in Jadzia Dax when she was alive, and when Ezri was joined with the Dax symbiont, he saw it as a second chance. Intriguingly, Ezri was also attracted to Bashir, but had to deal with Worf first, until she and Bashir could be together.
TOP
Bashir & O'Brien
Chief O'Brien originally hated Doctor Bashir, finding him to be extremely annoying, but after several away missions together, the two became best friends. They played an assortment of games together in the holosuite, including reliving historic Earth battles.

Bashir & Garak
Very early on in the series when nobody knew anything about Garak and he was suspected to be a Cardassian spy, he sat down with Doctor Bashir to have lunch. Extremely nervous, Bashir pretended that he was enjoying himself. In time, the two had lunch together more and more often, and eventually it became a regular thing for them both. Especially when Garak proved himself an asset to Captain Sisko, he and Bashir's relationship became more interesting, as they had elaborate conversations on virtually all topics conceivable.
